The DON'T WAIT Project® (DWP), founded by Lisa Bradshaw in 2011, is a 501c3 non-profit organization committed to raising community awareness about how positive life choices can impact the health and welfare of individuals, organizations and communities. Since partnering with filmmaker, educator and UnMake a Bully creator Mike Feurstein (AKA Mr. Mike) in 2012, DON’T WAIT to UnMake Programs have focused on anti-bullying education, character development, and media literacy, working with more than 15,000 students grades 4-12. Students use a professional quality film camera and other equipment while learning valuable teamwork and industry skills throughout production.
Take a look at the extensive body of work produced by participating students from New York to Washington state.
DON'T WAIT to UnMake a Bully™ Program Director Mike Feurstein produced How to UnMake Standardization as part of the TEDx Wenatchee presentation in 2019.
MIKE FEURSTEIN (AKA Mr. Mike) is the creator of UnMake a Bully and a partner in the DON'T WAIT to UnMake and Mediasphere programs. Feurstein brings media into classrooms for project-based enrichment and runs summer video camps for middle schoolers. His students' work has been screened throughout the world, including the National Film Festival for Talented Youth. Feurstein's educational series "How to UnMake a Bully" earned Telly and Sage College Champion of Character Awards and endorsements from the Kids' Coalition for Quality Children's Media, The Anti-Defamation League, CBS-6 and many more. The How to UnMake a Bully program is being used by international organizations as one of the "best tools available" for anti-bullying instruction. An award-winning filmmaker, Feurstein is dedicated to giving students a voice in the stand against bullying through film and anti-bullying education.
During the pandemic, we pivoted and created a virtual version of our DON'T WAIT to UnMake program. This version still provided students with the opportunity to write, produce, direct and film their own PSA, teaching them scriptwriting, filmmaking and editing from home. It combined our mediasphere program, already implemented in several school districts throughout the country, with breakaway sessions and even a filmmaking scavenger hunt to get them up and moving, exercising their brains and their bodies while continuing our ongoing commitment to lessons in character development, anti-bullying education, and media literacy.
For students and school programs that have continued in the virtual learning space, our program continues to support educators and students in a stimulating and rewarding atmosphere, utilizing remote learning platforms such as Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams.
We are excited to offer remote learning opportunities for students learning from home in grades 4-12 with groups of 10-20 in participation, geared toward each specific age groups.
